PARENT & STUDENT PLANNING MEETINGS! January 28th, 29th, and 31st

Do you build a house without a blueprint? Best practice would say NO so we will do registration the right way and meet to discuss transition planning, course selection, concerns or questions BEFORE you start your secondary adventure.

ALL THE JUNIOR HIGH PREP DATES:

Monday, January 27th:  My classroom lesson will be a discovery of what to expect regarding the registration process, discussion of courses and electives offered in the 7th grade at North Junior High, and exploration of how junior high is different than Roosevelt.   We have been working on their strengths and how they carry their strengths forward to their future and support each other in their next “new” school experience.

BSD Curriculum Nights – January 14th, 15th, or 28th:  Looking to find out more about what options the Boise School District offer for Math, Science, English and Social Studies?  Parents of 5th - 7th grade students are encouraged to attend the BSD Curriculum night to help make informed decisions about what course options are best for their student based on their future goals. Here are the locations and times: Timberline High Auditorium, January 14, 6:00 - 7:00 pm; Hillside Jr. High Gym, January 15, 6:00 - 7:00 pm; Riverglen Jr. High Cafeteria, January 28, 6:00 - 7:00 pm.  

Wednesday, January 29th 5:30 – 6:30pm:  North Junior High Open House.  PLEASE mark your calendar to attend!  It is requested PARENTS only attend this event.  You will hear from the administrative team, mingle with other parents transitioning to North next year, and meet some of the 7th grade teachers.  Programs, academics, and keeping your child safe will be highlighted!  Start in the gym!

Friday, February 7th 1:00 – 2:00pm:  7th grade on-line registration through Infinite Campus will be done at Roosevelt Elementary in our 6th grade classrooms.  Students will meet with the North counselors, enter his/her chosen elective classes in the computer this day!  Parents and students will be able to log into IC at home if you want to view or change your child’s elective selections.   So prior to this day, families should be discussing what electives are preferred for registration! 

Friday, May 8th – 10:00 – 11:30am:  Students will tour North!  We will board the bus at Roosevelt and head over to North to learn more about the transition, opportunities, and people who will be a part of your child’s life over the next few years!  Students go in small groups on tours of the school with former Roosevelt students who answer questions, encourage extra-curricular activities, and dispel myths! More information will be given when we get closer to this date. 

During the Summer: You will receive very detailed information about what you need to know about picking up your schedule, practicing opening your locker, start dates of athletic opportunities, and more!  You also will need to get your physical over the summer to turn into North in August for PE & athletic opportunities! This is also posted on the North website at the end of June for your reference.

Note on Open Enrollment: If you move out of the North area between now and the beginning of 7th grade, you will need to apply for open enrollment.  If you currently do not live in the North attendance area and wish to apply for open enrollment, please ask Mrs. Severson or visit the District website www.boiseschools.org for forms and answers to the open enrollment process.

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID): AVID is a college preparatory program for student who need regularly scheduled study groups, note-taking and organizational support aimed at assisting a student in taking Accelerated courses.  For more information, contact me for further program information and the application process. http://www.boiseschools.org/parents/a_v_i_d
