Roosevelt Parent Update 4/13/2020

Extended Learning Plan:

Teachers are available M-F 9:00-11:00 or they can make special arrangements for you.

  • During this time teachers may utilize a variety of options to provide support for students. Some options might include: short Google Hangouts (whole class or small groups), Google Classroom, Class DoJo, Emails to parents, and phone calls as needed. You should receive an email from the teacher outlining weekly plans. This is not business as usual school, it is emergency remote learning. Our goal is to maintain relationships, motivate learners and reinforce the essential concepts from the school year.

Tech support:

  • For help on district devices, please call the help desk at 208-854-6670
  • Parents, as we move forward with our new learning opportunities, we want to team with you in providing a safe online experience. Specifically, for those families using district provided chromebooks, we will continue to make you aware of potential misuse or attempts to access inappropriate content. Teamwork truly is the key to success as we move forward. No filter can block every intentional attempt to access inappropriate content. However, we will contact you if our team sees activity of which you should be aware.

Celebrate Successes!

Thank you for donations to help us purchase our first ever Roosevelt Kindness shirts.  Students wore these shirts in February and walked through the neighborhood delivering Valentines and notes of kindness. We  received an overwhelming response of thanks from our neighbors who appreciate our kind students. If you would like to purchase a Roosevelt kindness shirt, please contact the office.  If we have enough interest, we may do another order for adults.

A big congratulations to 6th grade Grayson Williams.  He is our Roosevelt spelling bee champion and will move to the district competition.  Good luck Grayson!

During kindness week, Roosevelt students participated in a kindness store to purchase snacks for Ronald McDonald House families.  We donated hundreds of snacks to families in need. Our students are truly kind!

Please welcome Chris Miller as the new Roosevelt art teacher. Mrs Miller comes to us with years of experience as the art teacher from St Joes.  She will be organizing parent volunteers soon to help with the art program. Welcome to Roosevelt Mrs Miller!

 Survey

We need your feedback. Please help us by completing the state parent survey. To access the survey, visit  https://eprovesurveys.advanc-ed.org/surveys/#/action/127100/p30811. Then pick your student’s school from the drop-down menu. Please complete a survey for each school your child attends.

The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and your responses are anonymous. You can submit your survey from February 18 thru March 31, 2020.

 Safety

Our district works closely with ACHD to ensure that driving and walking routes to school are safe for our students.  As you are walking your students to school, if you notice unsafe conditions that need repair, please let the school office know.

Successes from the first half of the year

Roosevelt Recorder

Our 6th grade teachers are developing a student lead and created newspaper. Thus far the Roosevelt Recorder has only been distributed to 6th grade students. As our reporters, writers, and editors they sharpen their skills we hope to make this a school wide student newspaper.

Girls and Boys Basketball

This year our girls basketball team was undefeated in the regular season. Way to go girls! Our boys basketball season just started. We had so many Raiders want to join the team that we created a second team and hired another coach. This is unusual for a school the size of Roosevelt. Thanks for encouraging your students to stay active and participate!

Outreach Extended

One of our sweet first grade students, Emerson Woods, set up a hot cocoa stand over the winter break. She earned $150 and donated all the money to Ronald McDonald House, our outreach partner this year.  Way to go Emerson! We love to see our students taking community outreach to the next level!

Hour of Code

Our students recently participated in Hour of Code. Over 225 hours of code writing were logged at Roosevelt.  It was a fabulous school-wide event!

Talent Day

I’m sure you have heard about Mrs Mason’s Talent Days! Our 4-6 grade students took Talent Day to the next level and performed in front of each other.  It was brave of these students to put themselves in front of a crowd of their peers. We were so impressed with their courage and their talent!

Morning Meeting

This year our teachers have focused on creating a caring and respectful culture in their classroom. Each class takes time to meet and greet each other, and build class cohesion through specially designed activities.  Mrs Dodd reports, “The kids LOVE greeting each other and sharing about themselves!”

Invent Idaho

Our 2nd, 4th, and 5th graders participated in Invent Idaho. This inquiry based workshop approach to learning was so engaging for students.  We have many students moving onto the state competition. We will keep you up to date about their success

6th Grade Recess

Did you know that in preparation for junior high, sixth grade students do not have morning recess? Mr. Mellen and Mrs Stewart have found this to be very useful academic time. Not only do we have a larger block of uninterrupted instruction, but students are able to receive additional one-on-one support for challenging assignments or homework. This change has been great for academic success and school stamina!

Reminders

  • Handicapped parking on the Maple side of the street needs to be observed.  We have students and adults who need to use this area. Please respect their need for special access to our school.  Thank you!
  • Report cards will come home today with your student.  Please contact the teacher if you do not get a report card.
  • Watch for a very important email to come from your child’s teacher regarding kindness week!

Welcome

Juvy Lim is our new playground support specialist.  She supervises the cafeteria during lunch and supports students at recess.  Welcome Ms Lim!

From the Principal's Corner 12-16-19

Have a happy and safe winter break.  Enjoy some family time, snuggle up with a good book and play a game together.  Spend a little more time with the ones you love!  See you back here on January 6th.

Please welcome Juvy Lim as the new playground support and Jennie Otanicar as our new health tech.  We are excited to have them join our Roosevelt family.

We are noticing some unsafe situations during morning drop off and afternoon pick up.  We understand that the parking situation is a challenge at Roosevelt.  We need your help to keep kids safe.

  • Please DO NOT stop in the middle of the road and let your kids out of the car to run across the streets into oncoming traffic.
  • Use the Maple Street side of the school for pick up and drop off.  This is designated as no parking during morning and afternoon hours.
  • Do not swerve around stopped cars in order to quickly leave the area.  We have noticed just this week several near accidents/injuries when this happens.
  • Have patience.  Give yourself extra time to get to and from school.  This can be a stressful time and if you are rushing, accidents can happen.
  • Playground supervision begins at 8:15.  Students can be dropped off anytime after that.  Coming a little earlier may alleviate some of our traffic congestion.

Thank you for your support and diligence in keeping our Roosevelt student's safe.
